Should You Choose a Coach or a Therapist?

The difference between therapy and coaching is that a therapist focuses on your past issues and mostly listens by providing “talk therapy”. This can be very therapeutic as it allows you to release certain emotions and thought patterns that have been bottled up inside.

A therapist does not provide advice.

While a coach spends some time understanding your past so that they can get an understanding as to why you are currently in your situation, their objective is to focus on your future and where you want to be.

If you believe you are suffering from old emotional wounds or traumatic issues from your parents or family that has deeply pained you, it might be beneficial to see a therapist before working with a coach so that you can release these old wounds that may be weighing you down.

Another major difference between a life coach and therapist is that a coach cannot diagnose any mental health issue such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, etc. And therefore, cannot prescribe any medications either.

When to See a Coach

When to see a life coach

  • You want to get ‘unstuck’ and set goals you will actually achieve.

  • You want to accelerate to the next step in your career.

  • You feel like your life is on autopilot, and want to challenge yourself or break out of your comfort zone.

  • You want to stop unhelpful habits and replace them with healthy alternatives.

  • You know that your inner critic keeps you from living your best life and you want to learn how to quiet that voice.

  • You desire a life with purpose and meaning but do not know where to start.

  • You feel confused about the next chapter in your life (i.e. struggling with career decisions, major life choices) and would like guidance on what would best serve you.

  • You know that you have a lot to feel grateful for but something is missing and you need that extra inspiration to piece your puzzle together.

  • You want to tap your inner motivation for a major goal, such as running a marathon.

  • You want to hold yourself more accountable, whether in your personal or professional life

What is "Transformational Coaching"

Mindset Coaching + Productivity Coaching = Transformational Coaching

Transformational coaching is similar to life coaching. It involves helping people bettering themselves and their lives by bringing about necessary changes. Instead of changing how they act, however, as with life coaching clients, transformational coaching clients work on changing the way they see themselves. In my practice, my focus is on helping the client explore the underlying assumptions, beliefs, values, expectations, and personal attitudes that shape their experience of themselves, their world and other people. Of course, this is not an unfocused exploration. I typically start with the client’s presenting challenge, issue or aspiration but rather than focusing purely on resolving or achieving this, we seek to explore what is at the heart of this whilst also enabling, where relevant, the achievement of the objectives.  My service provides the opportunity for total transformation inside and out for both men and women. My primary focus is to help you develop a mindset that empowers you to overcome self-limiting thoughts, beliefs and behaviors and replace them with ones that enable you to set and attain amazing goals and live the life you always dreamed of. You entire life will benefit from coaching with me, Personal, Career, Relationships, Spirituality and Image. Additionally, you can enhance your internal transformation with Image Coaching. Through the use of tools such as wardrobe redesign, hair styling, cosmetic application, skin care and coaching exercises, we create an amazing image that will positively reflect who you are and what you want to project externally. Every image makeover is customized to fit your lifestyle, career, personality, and social activities.
